
In New York Coy has directed main stage productions, readings and developed new work for theater companies such as: The Actors Studio, The Adobe Theatre Company, Ensemble Studio Theater, Epic Repertory Theatre, The John Harms Theater, Musical Theater Works, The Neighborhood Playhouse, LOBO Theater, and The Stamford Center for the Arts. Coy directed the NY premiere of Lee Blessings’ THE ROADS THAT LEAD HERE for Epic Repertory at The DR2.
Coy graduated from The Actors Studio Drama School at New School University with a MFA in Directing in 2000. His directing credits there include three original works by graduate playwrights and a very well received production of THE ELEPHANT MAN.
Coy co-founded LOBO Theatre Corporation. He directed their inaugural production of ORPHANS at Urban Stages and LOBO’s production of the New York premiere of Tennessee Williams’ SPRING STORM in May 2004 at the Theatre at St Clements.

In Los Angeles Coy directed the underground musical hit, IT CAME FROM BEYOND at The Write Act Theatre (Los Angeles Ovation Award Nomination for Best Musical) and the critically acclaimed production of Edward Albee’s The Zoo Story for Deaf West Theatre.
Coy directed the world premiere musical, NOBODY’S PERFECT for The Family Theatre at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the Fall of 2007 and it will tour the USA in the 2009/10 season. Also in 2010 Coy will direct LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS for The Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC.
Coy is the Associate Director, alongside director Jeff Calhoun, for the highly acclaimed production of BIG RIVER at Deaf West Theater (DWT), which was remounted in Los Angeles, at the Mark Taper Forum, on Broadway at the American Airlines Theater with The Roundabout Theatre Company (Best Revival Tony Nomination and recipient of The 2004 Tony Award for Excellence in the Theater) and the BIG RIVER 2004/5 International Tour. Coy recreated the DWT production of BIG RIVER at The Ford’s Theatre in Washington DC. Additional associate directing credits include the Broadway musical, BROOKLYN directed by Jeff Calhoun, the Broadway revival of BELLS ARE RINGING and the Disney Theatrical Productions’ workshop of WHEN YOU WISH, both directed by Tina Landau starring Faith Prince and The Ford’s Theatre production of SHENANDOAH, starring Scott Bakula. Coy is also the associate director for The National Tour, United Kingdom Tour and Australian Tour of Disney’s HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL.
Coy also gives his time to the young theater artists of tomorrow and directs for the Norris Center’s Education Department in Palos Verdes, CA and has been a guest artist for The Governor’s School of the Arts at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia and is a guest artist for the 2009 International Youth Theatre Festival, Freilichtspiele’s Schwabisch Haller Burgerstiftung, in Southern Germany.
Coy is also an actor and made his Broadway debut, playing the principal role of Eugene Florzych in the hit revival of GREASE!. Coy performed with Al Pacino and Marisa Tomei in the workshop production of Oscar Wilde’s SALOME at The Actors Studio.
He is an alum of The Lincoln Center Directors Lab and a member of The Actors Studio where his directing credits include RACE MUSIC and WOODEN NICKELS.
